the competition

A) While planning a wedding, couples in all over the world have to make a lot of different preparations and decisions. On the one hand many of these topics are the same – no matter in which country – and on the other hand there are very interesting cultural differences. Both, the things in common and the differences, could be found in the program of an event.

B) Each competition (up from the national level) consists of 7 disciplines - as this is a lucky number and the project wants to bring luck to the couples. Events of lower levels can be organised with at least 4 disciplines.

C) Each discipline has something to do with the topic “wedding” and can be evaluated objectively with a certain number of points. Most of the disciplines should be "infotaining", but there could be some fun games (that are typical of wedding parties) as well.

D) Each championship has a first round with up to 5 disciplines and a second (final) round with one or two disciplines.

E) At least 4 couples qualify themselves for the final round. 50 % of the final couples are selected among the ones that have reached the best number of points after the first round and the other half will be selected by drawing of lots.

F) There is one binding discipline that you will find twice in each competition (in the first round and in the final at last and decisive position): „catching the (bridal) bouquet“. This is similar to the global bridal custom with three differences: the bouquet can be artificial, there are several throws and the question is not, which girl will catch it but: how often will the partner catch?!

G) The rest of the competition might be just 6 of the multiple choice questions that you can find in the chapter "global wedding & honeymoon quiz".

There is no limit for using tv-screens, computer or other technology to make the presentation of these disciplines more thrilling – but it is possible to do it in a very simple way (maybe with screenshots or using just questions that need no pictures).

Disciplines could be developed for many different aspects of planning a wedding.

If a complete scenario of 7 disicplines is needed or wanted, there could be these topics for example:

Finding the song for the opening dance:
This is very easy to organise if the competition should be included in a dancing party. The DJ could present some songs that are very popular for the opening dance on wedding parties. After having played some songs for dancing he could repeat one of these and ask: "Is this song called A) Love is in the air B) Love is all around C) Love shack?" Or the DJ plays 3 songs and asks "Which of these song has been a Vienna Waltz?" etc. etc.

Selecting the ring or the bridal gown:
Other ideas can be developed with other lines of wedding related business, like jewellers, bridal gown shops etc.

Fun disciplines:
Especially as another "action discipline" for the final couples, typical tasks for the wedding couple on a wedding party could be taken as an idea for a discipline: cutting a big heart out of a blanket, sawing of wood etc. etc.

***

At the start of the event each couple will get a pen and a paper for the evaluation of the first round.

H) The rules of the final discipline will be as thrilling as the final penalty shooting in soccer.
For example: After 5 guaranteed throws only the best couples of the final round will join the “final of the final” where each couple will have only one throw per round as long as there is only one couple left with a successful catching of the bouquet. With each round the distance and other circumstances of this discipline might get more and more difficult.

Each qualification event can have 6 winning couples:
- the best unmarried local couple
- the best unmarried "foreign" couple
- the best local couple that is married for less than 10 years
- the best "foreign" couple that is married for less than 10 years
- the best local couple that is married for less than 25 but more than 10 years
- the best "foreign" couple that is married for less than 25 but more than 10 years.

It is possible to have a final for each of these four and make a "final of the final of the final ..."
additionally - maybe to find a winner for the very best of the prizes of the evening.
